The hospital was established in May 2000. Its predecessor was the Sacred Heart Hospital founded by the entrepreneur Mr. Lu Bohong in 1923. It currently has nearly 500 beds. In the development process of more than ten years, the hospital is committed to giving priority to the development of rehabilitation medicine, and has successively become "Yangpu Rehabilitation Center of Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University", "Yangpu District Rehabilitation Medical Center" and "Yangpu District Rehabilitation Center for Disabled People", and became the first batch Shanghai Work Injury Insurance Rehabilitation Designated Institution, Shanghai Residents' Standardized Training and Teaching Base (Rehabilitation Medicine Major). In June 2012, it was transformed from Shanghai Geriatric Hospital of Yangpu District to "Shanghai First Rehabilitation Hospital (Preparation)". After two years of construction, the hospital successfully went "planning" and was officially named "Shanghai First Rehabilitation Hospital" in July 2014. In the same year, it was successfully established as "Clinical Teaching Base of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University".
