Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University was established in 1907. It is the affiliated hospital of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, an affiliated teaching hospital of Fudan University, and a hospital named by the Red Cross Society of China. The unit, the National May 1st Labor Award unit, is one of the most famous and internationalized medical teaching and research centers in China, and it is also the first subordinate public hospital that has passed JCI certification. It enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad.

There are four hospitals in the General Hospital, the East Hospital, the North Hospital, and the West Hospital (under construction), with 2,692 approved beds, 40 clinical departments and 40 specialties. In 2016, there were more than 4.3 million outpatient and emergency outpatient visits (more than half of the patients in the country and around the world), more than 90,000 discharged patients and more than 60,000 surgical operations.
