West China Hospital originated from the Renji and Cunren Hospitals established by the Christian Church in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries in Chengdu in 1892; West China Medical College originated from the Medical Department of West China Union University in 1914. Medical school established according to western medical education model. The Anti-Japanese War broke out in 1937. Central University, Yanjing University, Qilu University, Jinling University, and Jinling Women's College of Arts and Sciences moved to Chengdu, and jointly operated schools and hospitals with West China Union University. In 1938, Huada, Zhongda, and Qida of the Medical College formed the United Hospital; in 1946, the West China Union University Hospital was completed at the current site, referred to as West China Hospital.
